Class Notes

ACLS starts at 8:00 am in Holland Hospital Conference Room A. No lunch break is scheduled. Class starts promptly at eight o'clock, please arrive a few minutes early to sign in.

Please carefully read this entire message for important precourse information.

Students should already have received a book and logged into the AHA website for pre-course study.

Significant pre-course study is required.

An ACLS manual is needed for class.

The Precourse Self-Assessment Test must be completed with a passing score of 84%.

CEs are available.

BLS Recertification will be available after ACLS class.

The course content has significantly changed since you last attended class! The course is not more difficult, but less material is covered in class. The new ACLS format requires significant precourse study and AHA reports a higher student failure rate due to lack of student precourse preparation!

Choose one option to receive a book:
1. Pick one up at the Healthy Life Programs office at 175 S Waverly Rd, Suite A, Holland, MI
2. Call 616-394-3344 to request a book
3. email
Make sure to tell us your department and interoffice mailbox number or your offsite office name and address.
Community Members may purchase or borrow a manual from Healthy Life Programs.
Manuals are also available for purchase for $37.00 if you would like one for personal use.

The course pretest and precourse study must be completed online at using course code 'acls15' to login. You will need the Adobe Flash Player 10 to view the AHA material and HH employees should call I.S. support at x3110 (394-3110) if the videos will not play on your computer. Please DO NOT print the online supplementary materials. You may retake the online pre-test multiple times, please arrive with a passing score (84% or higher). You will be tested on the content in the four precourse videos.

Additional recommended reading is found on the website under Highlights of the 2016 Guidelines for CPR and ECC and American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. Please DO NOT print the PDF documents. Note that some of the video content will be repeated in class.

Holland Hospital does not directly offer CEUs for it's BLS, ACLS or PALS programs. Several agencies (e.g. SoM, ANCC, CECBEMS) have pre-approved CEs for AHA classes. The State of Michigan will count any hours (hour for hour) from the PALS, ACLS and BLS toward a nursing license. The course card is proof of attendance and each attendee is expected to track actual hours spent in class by keeping the course agenda. For example, BLS recertification is two hours and ACLS recertification is six hours.

BLS Recertification is a completely separate class from ACLS and the American Heart Association has issued a memorandum forbidding training centers from giving out BLS cards for ACLS courses. We will be offering a BLS Recertification for ACLS students immediately following class.

Please don't hesitate to ask questions by calling 616-394-3344 or email
